Welcome back to our series on automotive tools for the new comer to automotive work and tools. In this article I’m briefly going to cover the basic theory of what kind of hammer to use in mechanical automotive work. Auto body work and hammer use is a much more complex topic, and often takes years of training to understand fully. Hammers are used in mechanical automotive work to “Persuade” a tight object to come loose. Do not use a hammer to pound something into complete submission.
You may be familiar with the much more common carpenter hammer. They can be useful for some forms of automotive work, but they are not the preferred hammer to use. By carpenter’s hammer, we are talking about a claw hammer with one end serving the purpose of removing nails. What you really want is a ball peen hammer. However, if you already have a claw hammer and don’t want to buy a replacement, the claw hammer will probably be okay for most jobs. Just make sure that it doesn’t have a loose head as claw hammers often develop. The shank of the hammer absolutely must be securely sunk into the head of the hammer or you run the risk of it dislodging and damaging you or your car. A flying claw hammer is not a great safety idea so please use caution when using a claw hammer to work on your car.
As is the rule with everything that requires force and automotive work, use forceful blows judiciously. Many of the car parts under your hood are made from cast aluminum that will crack and break if struck hard. Just be sure that you are aware of what you are hitting and how hard you hit it, or you could end up with a much larger repair than you intended.
Social networking for the automotive industry seems a bit hard to fathom. With all of the sites out there doing it, but only concentrating on a couple of different sectors of the industry. The way I see it for this to work, it needs to be more all-inclusive.
The automotive a whole is having hard times right now, and believe me they are all looking for ways to make their businesses perform better. They go to the web because it’s one of the best places to push their businesses without having to spend more money then they can afford.
With all of the buzz on the net about social networking, you can bet they are looking in to it, just as I did. A lot of them are probably finding the exact same thing as I did, that there are no social networks that are directly related to their business.
Why on earth would you join a social network that doesn’t relate to your business? I know I wouldn’t do it, if they are looking to promote their business by the use of a social network, it just makes sense to look for like minded people in the social networks.
It stands to reason that a person who is looking to promote their auto restoration shop, doesn’t want to join an automotive social network that is aimed at new car dealers. What point is there to spend the time that it takes to network with people there.
Social networking takes a lot of time to do right. You need to figure out the best way to use it for your business. It takes hours of studying to get it right, you need to know demographics, and why the customers would respond to your as opposed to another person.
If you on the network that is aimed at you specific sector you increase you chances of it working for you greatly. Although a lot of the automotive industry still has no place to go for this, people are out there wondering why automotive social networking seems to be failing as a whole.
The bottom line is there is no such a thing as the idea of as a whole, it is just a few sectors of the industry that are covered in the social networking universe. I wonder how these people have come to a conclusion that it’s failing as a whole, when that doesn’t exist yet.
When you take a slice of pie, you can’t know the entire story of that pie. No I don’t think that automotive social networking as a whole has failed, I think that it need to have deeper exploration. The automotive industry is a tough way to make a living.
A lot of the people in the industry feel as if they got left out in the cold, if you give them a nice warm fuzzy place to call home, you can bet they will swoon right on it. They will attack like a pack of vultures, but they need to fell like they are getting something from it.
In the automotive industry we don’t have piles of money sitting around to experiment with, we need things to work the first time. I realize that most of these web sites don’t charge to join them, but it does take a person a lot of time to make them work.
When reading an automotive blog, there are many things that people like to see. Some of which are obvious and others are not. Here we will list some of the things to help you realise when you are reading a good blog.
One thing to look for in a good blog is great information. In anything you read it is usually necessary to many that you learn something. People do not want to read an article completely filled with irrelevant information. In every blog the writer’s opinion should be stated to an extent. You want to read the perfect combination of educational information and opinionated information. If it is filled with vague opinions, then the consumer is likely to quit reading half way through the blog.
The information you read in a blog also needs to be upbeat. Nobody wants to read a blog that is boring. Again, the consumer is likely to stop reading when this happens. You want to make sure the article your reading is fun and easy to read. You do not want to put a whole lot of hard to read words in because it cuts the number of readers down drastically. You want to make sure that anybody with a basic reading level can easily read the blog. There are some hard words when it comes to the automotive world, but still try to keep it as simple as possible whilst using technical language where appropriate.
You want any blog you read to be filled with accurate information. You want to know that the blog you are reading has accurate information. If it is filled with false information, it will not benefit you to read it. There should be quite a bit of detail in the blog about the automotive needs you are interested about. A good blog also has references to verify the facts placed in the blog. Putting references makes it easy for the reader to know that everything they are reading is true and can be trusted.
In an automotive article in particular, you want to be able to read about everyday cars along with unique cars. It definitely depends on what kind of blog you are looking for, but you want it to be specific. If the blog is about changing oil, then you want there to be enough information that you can change your oil on your own after reading the blog.
These are just a few things to look for in a good automotive blog. There are many more things you can do to make your blog the very best. Next time you read a blog, keep these tips in mind. These tips will help you realize if the blog your reading is good or bad.
